COACH WALSH RESIGNS AS HEAD BASEBALL COACH
Head baseball coach Dan Walsh announced today that he is leaving Centennial High School to move back to the northeast at the end of the fall semester. Coach Walsh just completed his 7th year as the head coach of the Titans and 20th overall. Walsh arrived at CHS in 2004 and was an assistant baseball coach for three years until his appointment to head coach in the 2007- 2008 academic year. He held the head coaching position for three years before moving with his family to Sandy Hook, Connecticut. During his first term as the Titans Head Coach, Coach Walsh posted a record of 56-37 and took the team to their first playoff appearance in the school’s brief history in 2009. Coach Walsh returned to the Titan Baseball Program again in 2013- 2014 as an assistant coach and was appointed head coach again in 2014-2015. He led the Titans to the Regional Quarterfinals in the 2016-2017 season.
The Titans will move forward into the 2020 season with varsity assistant coach Travis Summerlin serving as the Titans interim head coach for the upcoming season. Coach Summerlin graduated from Frisco High School in 2006, where he was a three-year letterman as a third baseman. He then went on to play second base at Palomar College (San Diego) for two years before transferring to Texas State University and graduating in 2011. He has coached baseball for six years: two at San Marcos High School, before coming to Centennial in 2013. When away from baseball, Coach Summerlin likes to work out, hunt, fish and spend time with his family. Travis and his wife Rachel have two sons, Simon (8) and Canaan (3). Summerlin is also a member of the school’s social studies department teaching World History. “This is an outstanding opportunity for Coach Walsh and his family. While we are sad to see him go, we appreciate his contributions to our athletic program as head baseball coach and to our school in our Special Education department. We look forward to Coach Summerlin leading our baseball program this spring,” said Athletic Coordinator Matt Webb.
